Tuesday was my half birthday.
Am I too old to notice that? Um, probably, but let’s look past that for a second.
Half birthday- that means I’m half way through my golden birthday age!
As you’ve all noticed, I really like little milestones that are a forced reason for reflection. I’ve been thinking about where I was when my birthday rolled around in August, and I think it’s important to realize how much I’ve changed SINCE then. Even in bad times, in the worst times, they can teach you something. That whole “See the forest through the trees” philosophy, you know?
I mean, mainly I know now that I can survive being tested. Survive endings, beginnings, the universe’s interesting sense of humor, and a diet of cookies and hospital cafeteria salad bar (hello, lunch + dinner throughout the end of December). Survive, period. Strength is within, right? Without that thought, though, I wouldn’t still be chugging along and smiling my face off.
And I’ve realized that what Tony Robbins said is true:
“Nothing in life has any real meaning except the meaning you give it.”
You get to choose what meaning you give to the experiences in your life. THAT’S what I’ve learned these last few months.
No matter how grown you are, still sometimes, people tell you things you don’t want to hear. Sometimes you see things you wish you hadn’t. Sometimes you cannot forget things, can’t erase things, and sometimes they don’t stay packed away in the neat little box in the back of your mind.
So to summarize (if you’re still following this train): Half birthdays are great, still have my stinkin’ sparkle, and am ready for the next 6 months.
