Thankful

I knoooow – Thanksgiving… the time when everyone finally says out loud all those things they should have been saying the other 364 days.

I’m going to jump on that bandwagon, too – I hope you don’t mind. Granted I actually do try to make an effort, especially this year, to be consciously thankful, and to express it. But heeey, let’s put it in a public forum, shall we?

Gratitude should not be a silent emotion. It, like love, should be shared loudly and largely. At least in my own experience, finding something to be thankful for even in the bleakest, darkest moments is sort of like a flashlight… it helps you find your path, and feel less alone.

WELL, this year! Golly. I have a heck of a lot to be thankful for… 2013 has been more than I could have imagined, in such a blessed way. In the past 11 months and 28 days, so much has changed, and all for the better.

And so, a list.

I’m thankful for family, especially parents who would go to the ends of the earth to see me cross a finish line and/or read a line that I’ve written.

For the best friends a girl could ask for, old and new.

For my cupcake of a niece, who I miss to pieces.

For a defrosted heart, and the person who has helped it thaw.

For the courage to take action… the type of action that brings a person ~3,000 miles back to the west coast (hi, California – I love you).

For the ability to run… and run. And run.

For our Service members, veterans, and military families… especially those with loved ones currently deployed.

For all of YOU, who take the time to read the crazy words I share here on my little corner of the internet ( you know, until my future newspaper column comes to fruition). 😉

And, especially, for this.936538_10100334695579279_1373856941_n

This morning, my dad – a man in his mid-70s who was, quite literally, dying almost a year ago today – finished his first race. That’s what it’s all about folks.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaappy Thanksgiving! XO

In the comments, tell me – what are YOU thankful for today?
