This past weekend, we took a little trip to Catalina, off the coast of southern California! I’d never been before, and it was perfect for a weekend getaway.
We hopped on the Catalina Express ferry from San Pedro (by Long Beach) and spent a relaxing weekend hiking and enjoying the weekend away in Two Harbors, one of the two main cities on Catalina.
Compared to Avalon, the other city on Catalina Island, Two Harbors is far more secluded and…. quaint? Rustic? As in the town has one general store, one bed and breakfast (where we stayed – very friendly and clean!), and one restaurant. Oh, and free roaming bison, which were apparently brought to the island originally for a movie that was being filmed back in 1924, and then left there to become permanent residents. No big deal.
Think the Oregon Trail meets Jurassic Park, on the ocean. It. Was. Great.
Note: We hiked the Trans Catalina Trail. It had some gorgeous views and STEEP inclines, as do many of the other trails around Two Harbors (or so we were told). 🙂
What’s your favorite weekend getaway? California readers — ever been to Catalina?
