Scenes From the Weekend

Good morning!

You guys, I have a SERIOUS case of the Mondays. This is going to be a busy week, so I need to snap out of it, stat! Here’s a little recap of the weekend…

I had some meetings in Los Angeles on Friday, including one that took me right around USC’s campus for coffee. I just love LA’s energy (even if I  do detest its traffic).

I ran my long run Saturday morning in Newport Beach along the Back Bay. I was a Back Bay Loop virgin up til then! I mean, I’d run different segments of the trail for out and back type runs, but never the full 10 continuous miles of that path. SO darn pretty, even if there were a few hills/steep inclines (Dover Street, no gracias). I somehow got lost in an RV Park at one point, and was frantically searching for a water fountain, but otherwise it was great! I think I’d have been a bit faster had it not been for some of the hills, particularly at the end, but it was definitely good practice since I have a huge hill coming up in the SD Half (and I’ve been doing approximately zero hill training til a few days ago).

Brunch at Plums Cafe in Costa Mesa, post-run. I was nice and sweaty… I’m sure the other patrons in the restaurant were thrilled I didn’t feel inclined to go home and shower first. 😉 This was my first visit to Plums, though, and the food was terrific! It’s known for its pancakes, and they certainly did not disappoint. I got the “Oregon Trail” – two eggs (poached for me!), two pancakes, and bacon, which I subbed for fruit.

Every day of long runs should end in pizza, obviously. This hit. the. spot. We tried a new-to-us pizza joint in Costa Mesa, Massimo’s, and it didn’t disappoint my high standards (cough – NYC – cough) of pizza excellence.

Sunday brunch at Haute Cakes plus coffee (and free Peanut Butter Company packets!) with a friend. Disappointingly, my trusty avocado toast and eggs at Haute Cakes didn’t taste as good as normal…. they overcooked the eggs so they weren’t dippy like usual. Whomp whomp.  Clearly I still cleaned my plate though.. I still love ’em.

Hot yoga followed by a quinoa bowl of sautéed chicken and veggies + the Grammy’s to wrap up the weekend. I have to admit  I’m a little sad that T.Swizzle didn’t perform…

I started today off with some Pure Barre and am grabbing breakfast with my cousin, who’s in town for work, but then it’s back to that work thang. Have a good one! xo

How was your weekend? What stands out?

Your photos look great! Running in a warm, sunny area sounds terrific. I live and run in Maine and it’s been pretty snowy lately. Your quinoa bowl looks especially delicious!

I bet it’s darn cold right now! I lived back east for a few years, and in serious cold I always ran on a treadmill. 🙂 I’m a weather wimp.
